Dental Bonding
Dental Bonding Overview
Uses
Dr. Birckhead & Dr. Powers at Premier Dental Care use dental bonding for several different purposes. These include changing the shape of a tooth, closing gaps between teeth, repairing cracks and chips, filling cavities and restoring decayed teeth as well as protecting the root of a tooth when the gum line has receded.
The Procedure
At Premier Dental Care, dental bonding can be completed in one day. Once Dr. Birckhead & Dr. Powers have selected the proper color resin to match the shade of the natural teeth, the dental bonding procedure is started. Dr. Birckhead & Dr. Powers will roughen the part of the tooth where the bonding material will be placed, which will provide a stronger adhering surface. The bonding material is then applied to the tooth, molding and smoothing it into the desired shape. Next, a LED light is applied to the material, which will harden the bonding material, securing it to the tooth. Once the resin has hardened, the tooth is then shaped and polished to match the natural teeth.
The Results
At Premier Dental Care, dental bonding is one of the simpler procedures as well as one of the least expensive cosmetic procedures available to correct damaged and discolored teeth. Bonding materials must be cared for properly. Most patients who have dental bonding performed will require repairs after five or more years.
